Default 'Insomnia' (1997) - High-Def Digest Review

Kevin has reviewed the Criterion release of the original 'Insomnia' (1997). He says the original version is superior to the American remake. With a gorgeous transfer, very good sound, and some interesting extras, Criterion has scored another winner. This is highly recommended.

I enjoyed the remake very much, so I'm looking forward to my order from B&N.

I had no idea Nolan's movie was a remake. No wonder it was a bad movie (and something I would have never expected out of Nolan).

I wouldn't call it a bad movie...but it certainly doesn't seem (story wise) up to par with Nolan's other films. I recall hearing at the time that it was a remake, and the original was superior.

What I do like about Nolan's version is how well he conveys the state of being unable to sleep, and how it impact's Pacino's interaction with the world around him. The fog of his insomnia. I'm not sure if those choices were pulled from the original, but I guess I'll find out!

See, my problem was, I had no problem sleeping through the movie at all.

Come to think of it, I saw that movie long before I even knew who Christopher Nolan was.
