Default (idea) Great American Directors Collection

If there was a box set called "Great American Directors", with one film from each director, which directors/films should be included? Would it be the most mainstream of the films, the director's most polished work, or an early example of theirs?

Here is an example of a sampling:

- Quinten Tarantino - 'Reservoir Dogs'
- Steven Spielberg - 'Jaws'
- Woody Allen - 'Annie Hall'
- Wes Anderson - 'The Royal Tenenbaums'
- Michael Bay - 'Armageddon'
- Mel Brooks - 'Young Frankenstien'
- Tim Burton - 'Edward Scissorhands'
- John Carpenter - 'Halloween'
- Wes Craven - 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'
- Francis Ford Coppola - 'The Godfather'
- Coen Brothers - 'Blood Simple'
- John Ford - 'Stagecoach'
- David Fincher - 'Seven'
- Dennis Hopper - 'Easy Rider'
- Spike Lee - 'Do The Right Thing'
- Elia Kazan - 'On The Waterfront'
- John Landis - 'The Blues Brothers'
- Stanley Kubrick - '2001: A Space Odyssey'
- David Lynch - 'Blue Velvet'
- Terrence Malick - 'Days of Heaven'
- Michael Mann - 'Heat'
- John McTiernan - 'Die Hard'
- Christopher Nolan - 'Memento'
- Frank Oz - 'Little Shop of Horrors'
- Sam Raimi - 'Evil Dead 2'
- Harold Ramis - 'Groundhog Day'
- George Romero - 'Dawn of the Dead'
- Rob Reiner - 'When Harry Met Sally..."
- Martin Scorsese - 'Goodfellas'
- Steven Soderbergh - 'Schizopolis'
- Oliver Stone - 'Platoon'
- Billy Wilder - 'Double Indemnity'
- David Zucker - 'The Naked Gun'

Fill in these as well?

James Cameron - (the toughest one to choose - The Abyss? Titanic? T2? Aliens? True Lies?)
Clint Eastwood - ?? Million Dollar Baby ??
George Lucas - ?? Star Wars '77, American Graffiti
Ridley Scott - Alien? Blade Runner? Legend?
Tony Scott - Top Gun
Spielberg - Indiana Jones? Munich? ET? Jurassic Park?

Eastwood should count as he's directed so many the last 2 decades.

I like your suggestions, but I believe Cameron is Canadian, and the Scott's are Brits. I may be wrong myself about all my suggestions being American.

Christopher Nolan is British, and Billy Wilder was Austrian.
