Slight edge over the UK? I know it's just screenshots but the Criterion looks MUCH better!

I'm so glad you guys mentioned the video difference, and included screenshots. I had already ordered this Criterion from B&N even though I owned the UK steelbook version. It will be nice to have both.

Are the supplements on the Criterion the same as on the UK blu ray?

I thought the UK version's screenshots looked better. Much brighter. The Criterion's image looked pretty dull. Is the UK import region free? I may just end up getting that version if it is.

By the 1st photo comparison (Stephen Lack) it's lableled as if darker muddled image is from the Criterion version (top still) and the bottom is the UK version...just sayin...

I just looked and it's very confusing. If the brighter shots are the UK version they do look better, you're right.

Well I just found my own answer: the UK version is region-B locked. Lame

I too am wondering if those screen shots are correctly labeled, but either way, they look vastly different. Not very similar at all, as the review suggests.

I agree. I'm sure the reviewer or some staff will comment and fix that

Apparently the brighter shots are from the UK import as evidenced by the review for it here: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/9935..._UKimport.html

Not sure how anyone could prefer the much darker transfer of the newer Criterion version. The gamma level is just way too low IMO. Can't say I agree with the reviewer's comparison.

I'm not a fan of the color timing on the Criterion version either. Despite being approved by the director, it's probably not a true rendition of what the theatrical version looked like, and it's certainly not similar to any previous home video version.

Sadly, what I believe we have here is yet another director tinkering with his work to give it a look he prefers NOW, but NOT a true version of what the film is supposed to look like.

Finally, just from my personal tastes, I think the UK version looks much better.
