Default 'Love Happy' - High-Def Digest Review

David Krauss has reviewed 'Love Happy'. He says this mildly amusing comedy was the final official Marx Brothers film. This Blu-ray features adequate video and audio and no supplements. This is for fans.

Interesting that this particular film was released on Blu-ray.
Now the real question: When will we see the rest of their films released in HD on Blu-ray?

It all comes down to rights and a distributors willingness to dig deep into the catalog.

A majority of the earlier, funnier Marx Brothers movies are owned by Universal (which has the rights to the brothers' Paramount films through MCAs 1958 acquisition of the pre-1948 Paramount back catalog) and Warner (their MGM/RKO output, acquired through Turner). Films like Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera will show up on Blu-ray only when Uni and WB get around to them... if they ever do. Honestly -- and this pains me to say it -- there's a good chance both companies would rather not bother with BDs of these films.

Love Happy (and the Groucho-solo Copacabana, also on Blu-ray) were originally released by United Artists. A portion of the UA catalog was absorbed by Republic Pictures, which in turn was bought by Paramount/Viacom. Olive Films has a distribution deal with Paramount, and handles all home media of their Republic catalog. Olive is not afraid to release the films they have access to, no matter how old and/or unpopular a particular picture might be.
