Default 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' - High-Def Digest Review

Shannon has reviewed 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'. He says this movie is sort of an odd duck; it's not quite a comedy and not quite a drama, but ultimately, it's his favorite film by Ben Stiller, both as a star and as a director. The Blu-ray features 5-star video, 5-star audio, and an assortment of extras. Recommended.

This was one of my favorite films last year. Agree that this was vastly underrated and deserves some attention. One of the best looking films I've seen.

Really want to see this. It played for what felt like only a week in the theaters around these parts, so I totally missed it last winter. I think Stiller, while a very, very hit and miss actor, has proven that he's got the chops for directing. Tropic Thunder is one of my favorite comedies of the past decade, with Cable Guy following right behind it as my favorite comedy of the 90's.

This is a blind buy for certain.

That's not saying much if Shannon gives the Movie Itself rating only 3.5
stars and think that's Ben Stiller's best?

Either Shannon has really high standards for Ben, that his best is yet to
come with 4 star, 4.5 star, and 5 star films yet to come.

Or that Shannon thinks Ben's previous works were pure junk.

This is like a teacher giving your kid a C+ report card and writing:
"This is the best work your son had ever done."

Thanks, I think?

Given the first 30 to 45 minutes of the film (most of which I did not enjoy), I didn't think a higher rating was warranted, as the movie itself is just short of two hours. So I factored that first portion into my final rating.

I also think 3 1/2 stars is well into B or B+ territory.

3.5 out of 5 (70%) is a B/B+ for you? Shannon, no wonder your classes are
always over-enrolled with students.

The star rating scale for movies does not and has never worked the same as an elementary school's letter grades.

I used both 1) analogy and 2) exposition to make my point.

The point about saying that it's-Ben-Stiller's-best AND it's-a-3.5-out-of-5,
is still not much of a compliment.

If you want to tell me that XYZ is Uwe Boll's best work but you rated it
1 out of 5 stars. I'm gonna wonder how much of a favorite of yours is it
really?

Pretty fair question, don't ya think?

(Disclaimer: pls do not get lost in the analogy. Ben Stiller is not Uwe
Boll. Boll is used as an extreme example to provide high contast to the
point about emphasizing a compliment that really isn't a compliment.)

Apparently also underrated here at HDD, too. Can't wait to watch this (but
have to, Wifey wants to see it on the weekend).

This trailer is exactly how to pitch a film to me:
