Default Amazon accepting preorders for Avatar 2, 3 & 4.

Amazon is now taking preorders for Avatar 2, 3 and 4.

Release dates are still to be determined, and extras are still a long way off.

Avatar 2 BD 3D + BD 2D + DC

Avatar 3 BD 3D + BD 2D + DC

Avatar 4 BD 3D + BD 2D + DC

Robert Jester at 20th Century Fox is quoted as saying that "in an ever so competitive market to get consumers to spend and commit to a product, a market where home videos are available to prepurchase while the title has only been in theaters for a day or two, we have decided that the next evolutionary step is to accept preorders for a title that is not even in production yet."

In the Press Release Jester goes on to talk about how consumers are less likely to cancel a preorder when there is so much hype around any given film. Just look at how successful Disney has been over the years selling hype. It is also just good marketing as the consumer is more likely to see the movie when it hits the theater because they have already committed to the "brand" as it is put.

Trailers below Spoiler Tag.

If 2-4 were listed for preorder, I'd actually place an order for them. I know I'm going to buy them, so why kid myself and not order them when I can order them and ensure the cheapest price. And yes, I'd order them even with the expectation that an extended edition would be released later. I bought 3 versions of the first (movie only, extended and 3D), why break tradition?

People - look at the ASIN id that each one goes to, one by one if you don't get it, if it takes you til the 4th one, big LOL
And yes, the trailer listed under number 2 is perhaps the best one.

I understand it was a joke but I would in all serious preorder them if Amazon listed them. There's no harm in doing it so why not?

Thanks - next year I'll get it right.

I come up with the idea when I saw a news blip about them signing on our stars for the next 3 movies. Then I thought Spaceballs the Movie in the instant play library, then the rest is history.
