Default 'King of the Hill (Criterions)' - High-Def Digest Review

After skipping DVD in the U.S., Steven Soderbergh's 'King of the Hill' finally hits Blu-ray in a fantastic Criterion edition. Kevin Yeoman says this is a delightful film. With excellent picture and sound, as well as a host of incredible extras including a whole other Soderbergh feature, 'The Underneath,' this Blu-ray comes very highly recommended!

Looks like they did a nice job on this release. Will pick it up eventually.

Very glad to hear that The Underneath is a real 1080p transfer and not a 1080i upconvert from SD.

I'd rather they do the King of the Hill cartoon series. That was a pretty good show.

wants to almost cry. Why did this have to come out for a home version after Lynn Samuels died? She loved this movie. :-(

As for the movie itself why does it sounds like the audio was remastered? I expected no tampering like that, or an almost upscale. Why can't Criterion at least offer us a Mono or Stereo edition(whichever was the original sound element)? It's being downright disrespectful considering they're Criterion.

extra: Attebury your avatar pic is adorable.

The movie played in theaters with a Dolby Surround soundtrack. The Blu-ray has been remixed for 5.1 by the film's original sound mixer. Remixing from Dolby Surround to 5.1 can be as simple as re-encoded matrixed sound elements into discrete channels for the same speakers they would have been heard from anyway. It doesn't necessarily mean that the original intent has been altered.

Criterion only includes remixed audio if they can get the participation and consent of the original filmmakers.
