Default 'The Jungle Book: Diamond Edition' - High-Def Digest Review

Aaron has reviewed 'The Jungle Book: Diamond Edition.' This is highly recommended. Here's why...

Did they take three steps forward and two steps back in the video department? Regardless, it sounds like this may be a worthwhile purchase for the 7.1 soundtrack alone.

'Aladdin' has an import: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/9049/aladdin_be.html

But yes, it needs a domestic release.

Great review, Aaron! One minor thing: you didn't write any opinion on the "I Wanna Be Like You" special feature.

Just didn't get copied and pasted correctly. Should be updated soon. Good catch. And thanks.

I have Aladdin sitting on my coffee table ready to watch, and finally ordered the Steelbook of The Jungle Book (yes, I know its region B locked, but I have a multi-region player). I didn't know the UK had a release of Hercules, I will have to pick that up.

Surprised no one is complaining about the aspect ratio of The Jungle Book. Many people are complaining because "Disney cropped this version". I understand where they are coming from, but the original intended theatrical release was widescreen, with an open-frame version that was distrubuted to theaters, and that version was also released on VHS and other formats. I must say, I am torn - do I want the full-frame version that I have seen my whole life, or the intended-aspect-ratio that we have here on the Blu-Ray. I wish Disney had of included both,

This and Sword and the Stone are pretty much the only two films that I think "survive" the Dark Ages. By that, I mean hold up. I don't Robin Hood or any of others really hold up as watchable entertainment. They rely far too much on nostalgia and the ability to replicate the viewers memory to overcome its own shortcomings.

Jungle Book and Sword in the Stone tell a tale and they have fun doing it. Jungle Book having probably the best songs until Beauty and the Beast.

Crap, I forgot this was coming out.

Of course, I still have to call Disney to exchange my copy of TLM.

Same here. I'll pick this one up eventually. Not in a rush to pick this one up right away.
