If the quality of this is at all decent, my wife is going to demand it on Day 1. She has all the original books, has read the autobiographies for both Melissa Gilbert and the actress who played Nellie Olsen, and even liked the recent cable remake movie.

It even has Ultraviolet HD streaming availability! I like that! It doesn't seem like to many (if any) older TV series released on Blu-ray come with a UV code.

Very cheap too considering it's 1268 minutes long and you get UV codes. I pass on this though, while hoping that it's a sign of more classic TV on Blu-ray to come. Besides, even if I wanted it, I wouldn't have enough confidence that the remaining seasons would get released (although at that price I would succumb to temptation and take a chance). After all, HBO never went beyond season one with The Sopranos, and that's about as good a TV show as there is.

I agree with Bruce - very cheap considering running time.

I am hoping this means more classic shows on Blu-Ray. At this price, I ordered two copies, one for me and one for my mom. She paid mroe than this for each season on DVD just 2-3 years ago. Hoping that The Waltons will follow!

First look at the restoration

It looks like they've cleaned up dirt and mostly just brightened up the image...

Amazon is selling this one for $19 and with Amazon Prime membership you get FREE 2 day shipping plus as stated, the you get the entire 1st season with a UV code. Seems like a bargain to me, all things considered. Got mine ordered.

I watched the pilot movie a couple nights ago and the next episode last night, and I must say that these have never looked or sounded as good as they do now. For many years, I thought this series must have been filmed in 16mm, because the broadcast versions have always been dark and grainy, and the intro music has always sounded like the tape speed fluctuated, like a worn out reel to reel.

If there is any grain on these two episodes, I didn't see any. It doesn't always have the brightest picture, and there are some long shots where I believe the director intended them to be out of focus, but otherwise, this looks as if it were shot digitally. I'm not going to say the colors are always perfect or natural, because I did notice in some shots in the pilot where there was a slightly reddish tint to faces.

Hopefully they will continue to remaster and release more seasons, but I don't see any announcements past season 2 (which I have on pre-order.)
