Default 'The Fog: Collector's Edition' - High-Def Digest Review

Enois has reviewed Scream Factory's 'The Fog: Collector's Edition.' He says this new Blu-ray of John Carpenter's 1980 cult classic is the definitive release so far as the film has never looked better than it does in this new high-definition presentation. Recommended.

I really love this movie.

"one which elevates the frankly silly idea of vengeful leper ghosts into a spooky experience."
Why is it a silly idea? It's something different, and I think it works here. Frankly, it's nice not getting some generic vampire/werewolves type of horror story.

"but it has a strong cult following, especially those with fond memories."
Yes you can include me in this group

"I still remember seeing the movie for the first time as a kid and feeling utterly terrified by it."
Me too the first time I saw it as a kid. It was just such an eery, creepy movie. Children of The Corn & Halloween gave me that same feeling.

Those supplements sound excellent. I can't wait to get this!

I don't think I've ever seen this version. I saw the remake, and I saw 'The Mist' which was basically a clone of the fog... Definitely putting this on my want list though.

Any indication if this one has a better transfer than the UK release I've owned since 08?

The remake was complete GARBAGE.

The Mist was a good movie and this The Fog is a very different movie.

Never understood the love for this movie, to me it's a borderline bad movie, a guilty pleasure at best..but.. it's old and has JC's name on it so - a cult hit! Recommended!!

Yes, this new transfer is definitely superior. Sadly, the Optimum/Studio Canal release is pretty awful-looking, ruined by contrast boosting, blown-out highlights and what seems like the wrong color timing.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

Yeah... The Mist and The Fog are vastly different. I wouldn't even really put them in the same genre. The Mist is more about the human drama and religious fanaticism/mob behavior.
