Default 'Cleopatra' - High-Def Digest Review

David has reviewed 'Cleopatra.' He says the film will continue to
divide audiences and critics alike, but no one can dispute the quality
of this superior Blu-ray release. Highly recommended.

I have just watched the bluray. I suspect that this will be the best classic film transferred to Bluray this year. It should be seen on BD by any film fan. However, it will also sadly probably be one of the last of the biggies that will be coming to Bluray. I visited a half dozen local stores and could not find a copy. All the stores seem to carry now are new movies. Eventually I had to order it from Amazon Canada. There doesn't seem to be much interest in classic films on disc anymore.

It's the same transfer as the UK release, except that the U.S. edition corrects the placement of the entr'acte to put it at the beginning of Part 2 rather than the end of Part 1. Other than that and the Digibook packaging, everything else is the same.

Thanks for the info, Josh. I waited and waited for an announcement of a US release, and finally gave in and bought the UK version. Of course, the US release announcement came a week later.

I saw this in its theatrical release last month and the big screen does amplify the film's flaws; as David says, it's no "Ben-Hur." But when it works, it's pretty sensational.

Grabbed this for $5 at Best Buy.

Never saw this epic spectacle before. Found it for a bargain;
now I have to find 4+ hours to watch it and twice that for the
special features.
