I thought the review of the first one was a bit harsh TBH.

I, personally, think it's a visually prettier movie than Aaron made it out to be. But to each his/her own of course. I do sorta agree about the moose though. They do serve more of a purpose in the sequel however.

Definitely agree on the other hand, how the sequel did much better, visually speaking, than most Disney direct to Video releases.

Why did they not fix the aspect ratio issue on this? Since BRs are all 16:9 they could have expanded that first bit to fill the screen. Sort of like the IMAX aspect ratio changes in TDK/Tron 2. I understood the back bars on the DVD since it is anamorphic, but there is no excuse here.

This is not like The Dark Knight or Tron. Brother Bear wasn't designed for projection in IMAX theaters. The opening scenes are intended to be smaller and narrower than the rest of the movie. Filling the screen with those scenes would have the exact opposite of the desired effect. The widescreen portions of the movie would look smaller than the opening.

The DVD edition provided a second, "Family Friendly" version of the movie that reformatted the whole thing to a 1.66:1 aspect ratio. That could have been included here, but Disney dropped it in order to cram in the sequel instead.

This movie wasn't great, but I certainly wouldn't recommend Brave as a bear movie done right.

Eh...I wouldn't say that. Brave was pretty bad.

Weird. I thought Rick Moranis had retired. I didn't know he 'returned' for this/these.
