Default Blockbuster is Closing 300 Stores in the US

It's been bad news after bad news on the Blockbuster front this time in the States. 300 stores down leaves them with right around 550. It also leaves 3,000 employees out of work.

I can't help but wonder if they're planning to close them all but just doing it in waves.

Sad to see such a home entertainment icon disappear. All the stores near me on the southside of ATL have already gone. I still enjoy their by-mail service though. I hope they're able to keep that going strong.

That really sucks.

I just moved and I had a BB near my old home. I would go in there a couple of times a week (or more) to exchange my by-mail rentals for new movies. The coupon for a free rental was one I would use every month as well. I always had almost exactly what I wanted, whenever I wanted it available in the highest quality possible.

Now, with no BB near my home, it is a pain to find certain movies, or I have to wait for the mail system to get me a movie. The by-mail exclusively service is not even close to what the store gave me. Redbox is nice, but it is not even close to a full blown store for what it offers.

Well, they pretty much put mom and pop video shops out of business, so it's not surprising that the internet did the same thing to them with a lot of help from Netflix.

It's a shame they didn't make that strategic transition sooner.

It really makes me sad that the video stores are gone. Now to get a new movie you either have to buy it or PPV. Redbox is cool but they never have movies when they come out.

Default Family Video is open and growing!

Family Video is thriving in the rental business! Over 770 stores and growing! They have all the new titles on the first day they are released for purchase and also rent 3D blu ray titles! They have great customer service and great prices! Look up www.familyvideo.com and see any locations are near you.

This is sad news hopefully they keep their by-mail service. I switched to it after netflix raised their pricing and split streaming and by-mail. It is nice not having to wait 30 days for new releases.

They also sell their previously viewed blu rays for only $12.95 after about 30 days and $9.95 shortly after. Unlike Blockbuster, they give you all the original cases and artwork!

You should probably note that your posts are advertisments, just for clarity

Hate to see BlockBuster go and I hate for anyone to lose their jobs so I feel bad for the employees affected by this. Shame.....BlockBuster was great in the day. Afraid those days are gone and the times are a changing.
