This is good fun, but the first season was much better.

They are a really hopeless spy/special-forces team - they balls something major up in virtually every episode.

I just came on to post exactly the same thing as Spader but he beat me to it. ;-) This was fun enough, but nowhere near as good as the first season. It sorely missed the main character, not to mention Jodhi May (Otherwise remembered as Alice in Last of the Mohicans).

It's odd that they are calling this season the first season and not even acknowledging there is an actual Season 1.

Ah, but they have acknowledged it... in one of the most painfully obscure ways imaginable. It's right on the package, in the title even. This is CINEMAX Season One. As in: the first season of the new, not necessarily improved, Cinemax version of the show.

The "first season" of the original "Strike Back" was a six part miniseries, with a self-contained story, co-produced by Sky and the BBC, and has never aired in the US to my knowledge. BBC Worldwide has the international broadcast rights and could air the series on BBC America, but they haven't (probably because it'd need to be pretty heavily edited for their demographic/advertisers). The first series is available on BD in the UK, where it aired back in 2010.

"Strike Back: Cinemax Season 1" is really the second series, known as "Strike Back: Project Dawn" in the rest of the world, and is not a direct sequel to the original UK "Strike Back" (only one character is shared between the first and second series; the protagonist of series 1 is demoted to more of a plot point is series 2).

The 10-part "Project Dawn" was a co-production between Sky, BBC and HBO (who owns Cinemax). It is the first "season" funded by international money, with different characters, a different story, written and directed by different people (including "X-Files" alum Frank Spotnitz). Basically, it's a whole new show with the same name as the first "Strike Back". Or, in actuality, another entry in a very loose franchise based that name, the general concept and fictional world.

A bit of a bargain, you can get both season 1 and season 2 for 15.39:

That set is 1080i/50 though. Not suitable for 'murrcans.

I loved the first season and have just watched the first two episodes of the second, and it's still pretty good. The nudity seems forced, as if they're trying to compete with Starz and HBO. I do realise that Cinemax is owned by the latter and that they air softcore pornography.
