As to the quality of the 3D, I'm in complete agreement with the reviewer. There have been some terrific recent 3D releases such as HUGO, but this disc is still the definitive 3D demo material. Everybody who has a home theatre 3D setup should get this disc!

When is this 3D title going to be available for the United States?

Please correct me:

There's no 3D version in the U.S.

The U.K. version is Region B.

There's an Asian region A (or Region-free?) version? But it's called by the subtitle,
Sammy's Adventure?

There's a 3D Vudu rental version of it. Rental only, not purchase? Using the
normal Vudu app on my 3D blu-ray player (or 3D TV) is fine? Or do I need a
special 3D-Vudu version of the app.

How do I convince my wife (and myself) that I need another player? A region-
free 3D blu-ray player? I have a non-3D region-free blu-ray player, along with
too many other players... Arggh!!! So many details!! Is this stuff fun, anymore?

If you're referring to this Sammy's Adventures, then yes, you should be good with the purchase rather than buying a new player.

I haven't tried 3D Vudu yet, so I can't comment on that. But I wonder if Josh might share his opinion.

we have very little reason to be interested in them.

Not all VUDU apps allow access to 3D movies. You'll need to check the player or TV specs. For example, the OPPO BDP-103 will play VUDU 3D, but the older BDP-93 (which also has a VUDU app) will not.

If you're not sure about your equipment, signing up for a VUDU account is free, so it can't hurt anything to log in and search for 3D. If there's no 3D section in the menus, you don't have access to that content. (You only need to create one account no matter how many devices with VUDU apps you have. So you can sign into the same account on both the Blu-ray player and TV.)

I believe that VUDU's 3D content is encoded in side-by-side format, 960x1080 resolution per eye. Full-resolution frame packed 3D like we get on Blu-ray would require far too much bandwidth to be practical for streaming at this time.

But yesasia says it's out of print.

Thanks Josh for the Vudu info.

The Vudu app is smart enough to know if you're 3D capable. I usually use my
Roku (easy, fast interface) when using the Vudu app, so I didn't see 3D films
available. But when I registered my 3D blu-ray player's Vudu app, then I could
see the available 3D films.

The 3D Turtle's Tale 1 HDX is available for purchase (I know, I know, is it really
yours if you only own it virtually?) for $15.

So if I give in to my complete-ist flaw and have to get TT1 after owning TT2, I
don't have to get a region-free 3D blu-ray player.

There's also a Korean release of Sammy's Adventures.
