Default 'Striptease' - High-Def Digest Review

Demi Moore's 'Striptease' hits Blu-ray. Should you shake your money maker at this release? We don't even know what that means, so you should just read the review...

I'm a big fan of Carl Hiassen, and it's a terrible shame that the few attempts to adapt his books into movies have all failed so badly.

Aaron's opinion of this is very close to my own. The movie isn't nearly as bad as its reputation, but it's also not particularly good. It's mostly undone by Demi Moore, who is badly miscast.

It's simply hard to portray the kind of oddball stuff that goes on in Hiassen's books without it coming across as desperate on screen. This is the same reason I never want them to make any movies from Tim Dorsey's work (BTW Josh, have you ever read Dorsey? If you love Hiassen you'll really like Dorsey).

Yeah, Burt Reynolds in particular comes off as way too cartoony in this. You can read the book and say that the character was pretty much written that way, but it doesn't play right in live action. He needed to dial it back about 12 notches.

I still think that Hiassen's first book, Tourist Season, would make the best candidate for a movie adaptation. While it has a lot of humor, it's played much "straighter" than most of his later novels.

Haven't read Dorsey. I'll have to check him out.

I pretty much agree with this opinion as well, though for me Burt Reynolds has the best scene in the movie.

Edit: Cartoony or not, Burt was teh highlight of this mediocre movie for me.

Hi! I'm Conrad Dilbeck!... I mean Congressman Dildo...

I laugh my ass off every time I even think of that line.

Picked this Blu-ray up for $5. Sale priced at $9.99, then a $5 discount for trading in junk DVDs/HD DVDs. Plenty more of those on hand.

Burt Reynolds is pretty good in this movie, like when he gets up and hits his knee on the table. Doubt it if that was in the script.

Yea, I think Demi Moore was in it because her boob job was popular at the time.

And then the playing of Missionary Man during the end credits is really nice too.
