Default 'Unforgiven: 20th Anniversary Edition' - High-Def Digest Review

David has just reviewed 'Unforgiven: 20th Anniversary Edition.' Has Warner Brothers upgraded the Blu-ray for this western masterpiece? Lets put is this way, does Clint Eastwood like it if you tickle his chin and say "goochy goochy goo?"

Phew, I thought I'd be forced to double dip if the film got a better transfer.

Here's a typo in the review:

Quote:
Hired by the madam of a local brother (Frances Fisher) looking to avenge the maiming of one of her prostitutes, Munny accepts the job not of moral obligation or a quest for justice, but for profit.

Good review and I appreciate the irritation felt by using the same video and lossy audio format but calling it unfathomable, i'm not sure about that one, although obviously the reviewer knows exactly why this has been done and is using the expression in a literary sense. The decision is entriely fathomable and comes down to money as it always does.
They are obviously not only the same encodes but also the very same discs, they haven't reprinted anything on the optical media front, just picked them out of the 5 year old dusty blu cases and stuck them in the nice new digibook.

Movie rating 4 out of 5? Isn't this a little low?

They kept the DD audio track for this Digibook release? Shameful!

Is it worth it for someone who does not own the other version or should I wait for an eventual EXTREME EDITION?

i was a little fearful that this one WOULD have lossless audio, as then i'd have to buy it and slip it into my 10 film eastwood box set. but, after goodfellas, i didn't let it make me lose any sleep.

david nails the important part here: packaging ain't worth 20 bucks on top of what a disc already regularly goes for. that's just NUTS.

Huge fan of this movie and was planning to buy this for the upgrade in audio and the digi-book packaging. It's not a suprise Warner kept the same audio, I was just hoping they'd stop doing that. The last season of Smallville finally got HD audio so I was hopeful their other recent releases would too. Oh well, only picking this up for the packaging when it goes on sale for $5 or less.

Yep, a bloody shame WB went the greedy route in slapping a new packaging over the same, old disc. Can't say I'm surprised though. This digibook release will have to be in the bargain bins for me to upgrade over my existing Blu-ray. That's as much as Warner deserves for their laziness.
