With the remake out, it was only a matter of time before the original was also released. Glad to see it finally coming, although I wasn't expecting the WM exclusive. The original is my favorite, as I can remember all the wonderful acting, drama and tension from the superb cast.

Yes, it's about time. Been waiting for this since The Towering Inferno was released. Day one buy for me.

I think it's really good! I was born in '81, so this movie was a bit before my time when it first came out, but I was thoroughly impressed by the special effects in this movie when I was a kid. I'm not sure how the special effects hold up today, but the movie is still a very effective drama that makes you care if the characters actually live or die.

If you like disaster movies, and if you like Gene Hackman, then you have to check this movie out. This is one of Gene Hackman's most memorable roles IMHO. The remake doesn't come anywhere close to touching this movie.

EDIT - Also, I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but...even though I LOVE "The Poseidon Adventure", I really can't get into "The Towering Inferno" for whatever reason. So, if you don't like "The Towering Inferno" then "The Poseidon Adventure" might be worth checking out still.

I second that recommendation. As a kid, I fondly recall being glued to the tube, watching every scene intently, waiting to see what happens next. Definitely one of Hackman's finest roles IMHO. The rest of the star-studded cast members were just as amazing -- hello, Shelley Winters, Ernest Borgnine, Roddy McDowall and Red Buttons? Hell yeah! -- the human dynamics are very convincing, and I found myself emotionally attached to each of the characters and their predicament.

$12.97. Has dts HD Master Audio 4.0, 50GB dual layer, Region A.

Did this movie ever contain the song "Morning After". If it did they must have cut it out.
