Default 'The Phantom of the Opera: Live at the Royal Albert Hall' - High-Def Digest Review

Steven has just reviewed 'The Phantom of the Opera: Live at the Royal Albert Hall.' He says this is a spectacular rendition of the much beloved musical. The video and audio on this Blu-ray are both exceptional. Supplements are slim but the behind-the-scenes featurette offers an interesting look at the painstaking work done to make the show a reality. Recommended.

I really do not know why the sound quality gets such a high rating in the review. The center speaker is much too quiet - in fact is is nearly silent. Even if the actors/singers are standing in the middle of the stage, the voices are coming from the left and right speaker, only. In the very beginning, when the auctioneer is speaking, the voice ought to come from the center speaker, only but it comes from the left and right speaker, instead. This is only valid for the DTS master track, the Dolby Surround track is not affected by this. This failure has been complained by several owners of this Blu-ray and thus it can not be a result of wrong equipment setup.

I may get this one strictly for my daughter. She is involved in theater and I can see her liking this.

I have this Blu-ray and really enjoy it. IMO it blows the movie away. It's a lot closer to what I saw on stage when I saw it live. While I do wish this had been staged in a proscenium space; they did a great job making it work in Royal Albert Hall. The leads are great in the roles.

It is odd that the center speaker is not used much for voices. However, I still thought the sound was quite vivid.

People who love the stage version and were disappointed in the film should definitely get this.
