Default 'The Toy' - High-Def Digest Review

E has just reviewed 'The Toy.' He's not the film's biggest proponent, but acknowledges that this Ricard Pryor star vehicle has its fans. This Blu-ray comes with a very good transfer and strong audio, definitely an improvement over previous home video releases. For fans only.

ouch. Gleason and Pryor both have funny moments, but it is agreeably a somewhat uncomfortable film to watch with the whole bought and paid for situation E addresses. It seems that the filmmakers felt that the wisdom Pryor bestows on the boy is supposed to justify the means. It's not like the movie was made last year, but it's such a prevalent part of the movie that it definitely ages it in a bad way. I honestly don't think this is a strong Pryor showing anyhow, though.

Whaaaaaaaattttttttt? The Movie Itself: 1 and a half stars? The Toy is one of my all time favorites. Love this movie I think. I really liked it when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in a really long time.

I liked it when I was younger, too, but it didn't hold up well for me at all.

I admit the movie has some funny moments, but I also remember it being better than what I just saw. Personally, the second half feels choppy and clumsily rushed. And honestly, Pryor has made far better movies than this, like 'Silver Streak,' 'Harlem Nights,' 'Lady Sings the Blues' and 'The Mack.' All of which deserve a Blu-ray release.

we have very little reason to be interested in them.

I would love to see Silver Streak on BR. I liked the Toy as a kid, but have not watched it in a very long time. If it ever hits the $5 bin, I might pick it up.

Bustin' Loose was always my favorite. I'll give this one a look though.
