Default 'Redline' - High-Def Digest Review

Steven has just reviewed 'Redline.' He says this is a great disc for a kick ass movie that even anime detractors might want to check out. Recommended.

Just watched. Enjoyed it. Very mindless, even among other mindless anime, this is even more mindless but nonetheless I went in knowing what to expect and was ultimately entertained. Mostly impressed by the vibrant and visual style. Great BD PQ.

Even then, wished there was another crazy race scene in the middle act. The story and dialog in this anime are pretty horrific, the lack of another big over the top scene in the middle was like torture to me and nearly gave up on it.

In short, fun to watch crazy opening and ending sequences. Absolutely terrible middle act. Good rental, I'd give it a 3/5

This has got to be the most original piece of animation to come out of Japan in a long time. It was fun, it was over the top, it had a great score, the animation was gorgeous, and it was different.

The soundtrack is ridiculously awesome and so is the animation. I loved it.

Sadly did not enjoy the soundtrack as much but I agree, the animation is great and is what got me through the middle act. Glad I stuck with it, ending was good fun, the middle act needed more funky boy type mayhem or something.

Edit: Oh and forgot to mention, I watched it subtitled but also watched a few favorite scenes in English. I thought the English dub was pretty good. The translation doesn't stray too far off and the voice acting is pretty decent.

That's because professionals did the dubbing. I thought Patrick Seitz was just down right awesome in this movie. I cannot wait to have him autograph it in Sept at Denver's anime convention.

Good to know. Am honestly not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the top names in the dubbing industry. Going off topic real quick, the dubbing for Broken Blade was the opposite. Horrible translation and bad voice acting. The actor for the lead role in particular was very annoying to me. Switched back to subtitles very quickly.

Back to Redline, Aeon Flux is the only other animation I can think of that can compare to Redline's great visual style and weirdness. There are probably others but my mind is a blank and nothing else immediately comes to mind.

MADHOUSE is the best when it comes to anime animation.
