Default 'The Expendables: Extended Director's Cut' - High-Def Digest Review

Aaron has reviewed 'The Expendables: Extended Director's Cut.' He actually likes the theatrical cut better. Read his review to find out why this is a rental at best.

I didn't plan on double-dipping unless the price was right... NOW, thanks to Aaron I can save the cash! Great flick, what they should have done all along is offer both versions on the same disc rather than a cash grab.

That's right, another money pit for the studios!

While I can't say I like one cut better than the other, I do feel I cannot win, as this was the one time I held out for the innevitable double dip, and it didn't really pay off. Most of the extended scenes are neutral, but two that balance each other out; I like Rourkes extended scene talking about the girl he didn't save, and I hate Courture's extended cauliflower ear explanation, this guy makes Chuck Norris look like Pacino. With the opening voice over I thought I'd put in Cobra by mistake for a second lol.

Great cast from the 80's. Horrible movie.

One other tactic the studios grab me on anyway is the slipcovers, or lack of. If you buy a title early, it comes with one. If you wait a month or more, the slipcover is often times absent. I sort of wonder if the retailer yanks them off at a certain point. I bought a movie on BF (Water for Elephants) and then a few days later noticed a few copies at regular price with the slipcover. The discounted one has a stuck on upc/bar code. Makes me want to buy the full price one and then return it minus the slip cover.

If you don't have either, which one to buy? If I got the TC, I would always wonder what I missed in the DC. Of course, if they're priced differently, that may make the decision for me.
