Default 'Gia' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Gia' has just been posted. Aaron says he enjoyed this movie more than he expected, but he still thinks it drags on a bit too long. This Blu-ray features above average video and audio, but there are no special features. Fans should be happy with the low prices, everyone else, this is worth a rental.

Default Tragic story, told pretty well

Gia Carangi was the first famous person to die from AIDS. Chances are she got from a dirty needle as opposed to sexual contact since she was primarily lesbian-oriented. The movie itself deals more with her skyrocketing to fame and downward spiral, but the last few months/years of her life weren't completely disclosed in the film. She did die tragically, and the family did not notify anyone of it until after she was buried which is why no one from the fashion industry came to her funeral. The real Gia Carangi was more beautiful than Angelina Jolie, and circa 1985 when Cindy Crawford began modeling she was billed as "Baby Gia," because of the striking similarity. This is one of those movies that you would call a "Guilty Pleasure," in watching because it is a tragic story yet you could easily find yourself watching it over and over and that is because of the very good performances of Jolie and the other actors.
