Default 'The Adventures of Milo and Otis' - High-Def Digest Review

Nate has reviewed 'The Adventures of Milo and Otis.' He says this film is a real treat, though it's a very, very slow mover. This Blu-ray release is gonna be hard to find, and it features mediocre video qualities. The audio, however, is great! Pick this up if you can find it!

"Told through amazingly sweet, funny narration, this film is a real treat, though it's a very, very slow mover."

That seems like pretty good praise for something that received only 2.5 out of 5 stars on 'The Movie Itself.' Typo with regards to the number of stars?

i wish it were a typo. the film is sweet, the narration IS funny, and it is a treat, but it is so darned slow and a little forced, it earns a middle of the road score. if it moved a little faster, then i'd be scoring it much higher, but as is, there's a level of redundancy and a number of times in the film where we see events that progress NOTHING (ie the milo vs bear in the shack fight), that really bog it down.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification, Nate. Your reasoning seems sound and is appreciated.

Same here...I remember countless times watching this on TV as a kid. I was at WM a few weeks ago and did see a slot for this marked at $10 but it was empty

Yeah, the score confused me too. However, I chalk that up to Nate being honest with himself and the film itself.

the same thing happened with sky crawlers. you nailed it. i was borderline on each on scores, and aimed for the lower one in the end, rather than the .5 star higher. i didn't want to change the review any, and sometimes i can give a positive review to a film i give a middling score. with the midrange scores, the 2.5 to 3.0 on our scale, those are the hardest for me to write, due to balance, as those scores are films that do some things right, and other things wrong, and i hate the "paragraph good, paragraph bad" formula.

ah well. Milo and Otis doesn't earn super high scores, but it is a fun, very unique film. i'm curious about the 90 minute version, but would never want to see it, even with subtitles, since we'd lose Dudley Moore, and because i can't imagine another 14 minutes on top of the film that already feels 2x as long as it is.

I didn't even know this film was released. Was this an exclusive somewhere?

Oops, missed that when I was skimming the review. Thanks for the info.

I thought this was an OK movie when I was a kid, but I know it probably doesn't hold up very well.
