Excellent news after last week's depressing Star Wars debacle. Been wondering when they'd get around to the Blues Brothers. Let's hope it sports a new master. Though of course, new master or not, lossless audio is what will make it a must-own.

About Fraking time (watching waaaay too much Battlestar Galactica). I remember when The Blues Brothers was supposed to come out on HD DVD. I have been way too long for this movie to arrive in high def.

I think John Landis has mentioned that it will feature a new transfer, and he claims it looks great. I'm especially pleased that it'll include both theatrical and extended (unlike that other anticipated blu ray release for later this year that you just mentioned).

Yes, at last! Definite day one purchase for me. Hoping to replace my SD DVD of "Blues Brothers" though will have to see if all the extras have been ported over. Surprised that I don't have a copy of "Animal House" and the mockumentary and Scene It! trivia are extras I'm looking forward to watching/playing.

Glad to hear about the new transfer, especially if it's an improvement over the previous releases. There is so much activity going on in both movies, not to mention the incredible musical talent, where if done properly, the audio should utilize the surrounds to the fullest extent.

Its a pity it was only partially extended really - I keep hearing about the supposed 3 hour roadshow version... though I assume that was abandoned fairly early in production.

I was reading an interview with John landis from a couple months ago and he talked about the blu ray and said it was coming out this year. For once universal is releasing a movie that should have been in HD years ago ! I've already pre ordered my blues bros from amazon (<>..<>) I think it was 16.99 . As for the other , I have been enjoying it in HD for the last 5 years on so unless the PQ is better which I highly doubt it will be , I won't be double dipping on it

I wouldn't put too much faith in what Landis says, because that's what he also said about Werewolf in London and it was the same transfer from the HD DVD.
