I was hoping they'd include Val Kilmer's Iceman spoof from SNL

Paramount was on the wrong side of high def. format war and continues to sabotage the BD format. To release the same less than stellar transfer of a film that should shine on Blu-ray is close to criminal. Anyone who wants a digital copy can get it from other sources already.

God knows what they are going to do the Ten Commandments later this month. The box with its phony tablets is in very bad taste. It won't be pretty.

I imagine a volleyball coming with the special edition.

I may grab this edition only due to my HD DVD lacking any extras.

On the plus side, I was able to get the movie for $5 on HD DVDbefore the first Blu-Ray release. I was not impressed with the transfer then, and the addition of a DTS Master Audio Track was not enough to make me double dip, as I had a Dolby TrueHD track on the HD DVD (http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/942/topgun.html and http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/941/topgun.html) If Paramount is simply recycling the same disc, its a no-sale for me.

However, I am sure they will sell a fair number of copies. Blu-Ray has really seemed to take off in the past two years, and an anniversary re-release will generate some sales, and recycling old discs means almost zero-cost for Paramount. Sounds like good marketing strategy to me.

Them's fightin' words!

Seriously, what does the format (wrong, right or winning/losing) have to do with the quality of the transfer?
