Default Taxi Driver: April 5th IS the date!!!

    It's official!!
    from info on other sites--

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced Taxi Diver for Blu-ray release on April 5, in a 35th Anniversary edition. This gritty urban drama, written by Paul Schrader, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro as a man driven to violence by loneliness and desperation, won the 1976 Palme d'Or at Cannes and was nominated to four Academy Awards. In a welcome initiative, SPHE has licensed the use of the original Scorsese/Schrader audio commentary previously only available on the Laserdisc.

pre-order date has now appeared on amazon!
it had not had a date previously.

$17.49 pre-order price is fucking awesome but i'm getting scared now that it won't be a DigiBook like the original plan was.

Thank god, I've been waiting for this for a long time. I hope this time the release sticks. And my fingers will be crossed that they've somehow fixed or improved the color drop in the scene that was originally altered, but my hopes aren't too high. Hmmm this is pretty violent you better make the blood brown instead of red...

It's certainly possible to do that now with digital tools. On the long documentary that is on the DVD, Martin Scorcese says that the colour on the original negative has faded but nowadays most films are colour timed/graded/corrected in the digital domain so I can't imagine this would be too difficult to fix.

Of course, should the colour scheme have changed, we can expect all sorts of debate about it!

Let's see how fast this gets pulled and becomes a retailer exclusive.

This is a Sony release, I don't remember Sony ever pulling the retailer exclusive game, Warner is the king of that.

Big Daddy, Mr Deeds, The Deep and Heavy Metal say 'Hi'.

All within the past 3 months. And look at how many catalog titles Sony has released since October 2010. They are heavily swayed towards retailer exclusives now.

Exclusives are getting ridiculous. It was cool when the Lionsgate catalog wave were BB exclusives a month before their announced date but announcing a title and then pulling it for an exclusive is garbage.
