Default 'The American' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'The American' has been posted. Aaron says this is one of the best films of 2010. This Blu-ray features exceptional video, excellent audio, and a few meaty extras. Highly recommended.

Dying to see this. Heard a lot of good things about it.

This is a great film and is in my top five of the year.

The only thing I agree with the reviewer is that the film was very well shot and it looked great but it bored me to death. I didn't really enjoy watching a "hit man" living his life and banging a hooker.

I did not dislike this film overall even though it is a bit slow, in a European style sort of way. However, I did not like it enough for a repeat viewing so no purchase/no rental for me on this one.

4.5/5 really? I did not see this yet, but only because I heard about how awful it was. I wanted to see it but changed my mind because everyone was saying how terrible and slow it was.

I'll pass up on this one, not my cup of tea. Like a poor man's History of Violence.

Thumbs up

This is apparently not suitable for viewing for action fanboys....in which case this'll be just about perfect for me. I understand it's similar in pacing and theme to Jim Jarmusch's 'Limits of Control', which I enjoyed. Day 1 blind purchase for me

After I read Roger Ebert comparing this to Melville's "Le Samourai" in his review, I was intrigued. Didn't manage to catch it on its theatrical run though, but I will definitely be picking this one up.

Awesome review btw, good to see the PQ/AQ are excellent!

Thanks for a great review. Ebert is one of my most trusted critics but he seemed to be standing alone...until now. I'll probably rent first to see how it strikes me. Great cinematography in Italy is worth the price of admission alone for me.
