Default 'Ocean's Eleven (1960): 50th Anniversary Edition' - HIgh-Def Digest Review

David Krauss has reviewed 'Ocean's Eleven (1960): 50th Anniversary Edition.' He says the 1960 original is creaky and dull. The remake is the clear winner. This Blu-ray features very strong video and audio, so you fans out there should be happy. Extras are a bit interesting, but if you don't like the film, you might not care. This is for fans only.

unfortunately, I agree.

Having seen the remake first and then seeking out the original expecting it to better the remake, I was sorely disappointed

I don't think of the two as even being the same movie. I like the old one better. I guess "for fans only" is a fine conclusion though, since if you're not a fan of the rat pack you wouldn't like it nearly as much.

I doubt it would make much difference. The original film is really only useful as a time capsule of Las Vegas in the 1960s. As a movie with a story and characters, it's kind of awful.

I rented it. Yes, the rat pack mystique certainly adds to it, as does seeing Vegas in the 60s, but I have to agree it seemed creaky and dull. Only a rent once for me.

I've never seen this original, but will definitely check it out.
very nice of Warner to release it on blu, but there do seem to be many other better choices.
I think they had already worked on it for the dvd set so maybe makes sense that they would want to release it on blu.
who knows why it got chosen among the hundreds of amazing older films Warner has the rights to, but I'll still never complain about a Sinatra film coming to blu.

OK, so it's not just David and I, then.

The whole rat pack thing is cool and all, but damn if this flick didn't bore the hell out of me.

Maybe because it brings back good memories of when I saw this in the movie theater as a kid, but I always get a kick out of watching this flick. I don't mind the slow pacing at all.
But I agree that this one is really for fans of the rat pack.

Default Too Many Kids on this website

Anyone who doesn't appreciate the original Oceans 11 is too young to realize how great this movie was. The remake is for the new generation, and is just plain trash compared to this.
