Default Robocop Sony far superior to MGM

Does High-Def Digest know what they're talking about? I just read their review of the Robocop Trilogy and their "still current" comments on FOX/MGM's Robocop state that the image is superior to the Sony release. Judge for yourself:

I cannot paste links due to post count, just fix the link yourself to view:

(Current) Fox/MGM: www . imagebam.com/image/50749c57553733
(Unreleased?) Sony: www . imagebam.com/image/a1e56757553720

Clearly the Fox release is lacking fine detail vs the Sony. Previewing both films the colour in the Sony is also superior -- The Fox Sony Robo suit is blue whereas the Sony is steel-gray.

Buyer beware. Not sure you even have a choice unless you download the Sony BD rip.

The Sony release is heavily contrast and probably colour boosted, check the clouds in the background of that image you provide and also i wonder if thats real fine detail or just a sharpening filter that was applied to the release.

Can you provide any more images of the Sony abandoned release. ?

Mind you the MGM/Fox release looks like crap too.

paging mister Zyber...

you're judging a FILM off a PICTURE, meanwhile, heaven forbid, he's actually seen that Sony DISC (which did NOT get put on store shelves!) in action.

isn't it safe to say that both look like shit and be done with it? also, do you not realize our forum does NOT advocate illegal downloading? if you want the sony release that was so bad it got RECALLED, then go to ebay and buy it. you're batting 1.000, son.

Both transfers are heavily processed and using an ancient master. It is a pick your poison type of choice.
4K or even 2K new scans would look better.

Screenshots can't show everything, and Peter has actually seen and reviewed both discs. Not like it matters, anyway, since the Sony one wasn't released publicly.

Josh's review of the pulled Sony BD release on DVDTalk back in August 2006 is worth a read just for the entertainment value alone - http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/23110/robocop/

Any review that starts with "Holy crap in a can!" and ends with "The people responsible for this should hang their heads in shame and never work in the industry again" doesn't pull any punches.
