Default 'Stargate Universe - SGU: Season 1.0' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Stargate Universe - SGU: Season 1.0' has been posted. Aaron was surprisingly entertained by this series and thinks fans will be happy with this Blu-ray set, which features surprisingly solid video, excellent audio, and a collection of extras. Recommended.

I was slightly confused when I read the review.

FYI:

This is a review of the 1st half of season 1.
There is a SGU Season 1.5 as well and then a Complete Season 1 as well which apparently contains all of the 1.0 and 1.5 sets.

Yeah, I don't understand why you would recommend this release when there is a full season set out there. Had this review come out 7 months ago like it should have, I would not have a problem with it.

The show is great. I'm a massive Stargate fan, and I had my doubts, but this show impressed me. The cast is fantastic, visually stunning and I'm liking the more character driven episodes.

What Lone_Gunmen said. I got to meet Brian, Alaina and Elyse (Scott, TJ and Chloe if unfamiliar with the actors) and they were awesome!

We only just received the screener. Reviewed it as fast as I could. I don't know what else to tell you.

Even though I'm not a 'Stargate' fan, I still find myself drawn to this particular series because of its realistic, character-based drama about people being stranded on a lost spaceship.
This is easily explained - SGU is nothing like the other Stargate shows. I think SciFi, after the success of BattleStar Galactica, thought they could take that tone and slap a Stargate title on it to combine two audiences (the half-season releases are further evidence of this). But the Stargate shows have always been sci-fi/comedy, with the occasional deeper storyline; generally, lighthearted entertainment. They share nothing but a name and the occasional cameo.

That said, I watched several episodes, but at some point just stopped watching. This seems like a show that would be much better if watched rapid-fire; can someone who's watched the whole thing confirm that?
