Default The Who's 'Tommy' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of The Who's 'Tommy' has just been posted. El Bicho says this is a wild gamble of a movie that's well worth a peek. With fantastic video and audio, but not a single extra, this one if for fans.

Got this the other day. It looks great and sound good. The extras are non-existant, which is a shame as the feature about the quintaphonic sound on the UK DVD is pretty good. Still, I'll take exemplary sound and picture/no extras over average sound and picture/some extras on most occasions.

I had to buy an import DVD to get the extras but it was worth it. The film was not meant to be compared to the Who's original album and this is yet another review that does that. It is a certain director's interpretation of it, in which he infuses lots of great symbolism, social commentary on abuse, celebrity worship (see church of Marilyn scene), and religions brainwashing people to get money out of them. This film is one of Ken Russell's most brilliant works and he said recently that he wouldn't change a thing and is most proud of it. He also pulled an Oscar-nominated performance out of Ann-Margret.
