Default 'Splice' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Splice' has been posted. Aaron says he liked this film, probably more than a lot of reviewers. He says the Blu-ray has strong video, but with one issue, and audio that pulls you into the atmosphere. Extras are a letdown. This one is worth a rental.

Great review! Your opinion seems to match my opinion, exactly, on this movie. I found it to be a meticulously paced and smart science fiction film for the first 2/3 of the movie. Then the last third of the film kind of unravels ever so slightly. Its not that the last third of the movie is horrible, it's just not up to par with the expectations set up by the first 2/3 of the movie. What we're left with is a GOOD/ABOVE AVERAGE Sci-Fi film, that had the potential to be great...but it squanders that potential.

My only other gripe with the movie is the dramatic change in Sarah Polley's character traits. She has one opinion on "having children" during the first few minutes of the film, and then her character undergoes a dramatically polar opposite shift in opinion rather quickly and unrealistically. Her character actually becomes REALLY ANNOYING for a good chunk of the film's run time after that. I found Adrien Brody's character arc to be much more realistic.

If you don't need the DVD, there is a Blu-Ray only version available for $ 19.99 at Walmart. It appears that this may be a Wal-Mart exclusive.

This film is high up in the Nutflix que. Ive heard from several sources that is starts better than it ends which is what most here say too. Still, its probably decent enough to spend a night watching so I shall do just that.

For what it's worth, I didn't notice much of any banding on my projector. This may be something that certain dispaly types exaggerate.

Anyone else that has seen Splice notice that there is a lot more psycho-babble in it that sci-fi? Just checked it out last night with my wife and we were both fairly disappointed after having seen some very flattering reviews for the movie.

hahaha....this is actually what I thought about a day later...after I saw the movie. In the process of watching the movie, I was thinking "What the heck? This character is so annoying."

Then, the next day I was thinking about the movie again, and I thought, "Yeah, typical woman." lol. It is so true though!

Also there was a lot going on with her character that was only hinted at, mother wouldn't let her have dolls, kept her in a cell like room etc etc. Yeah for most of the film she was a stupid little bitch, and as Lisa once said to Homer "Dad I can't believe I'm saying this; but can't you control your woman?!", Adrien needed to say no to her many times in the movie.
