Default 'Harry Brown' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Harry Brown' has just been posted. El Bicho says this movie showcases another great performance from the legendary Michael Caine. This Blu-ray features 4 star video and audio, and a very entertaining audio commentary with the Caine-master himself. Recommended.

I have already posted my thoughts in detail on Harry Brown:

Good review though and makes the point well that this very gritty film can be difficult to watch at times. The sequence in the crack den being a prime example...
Definitely one of the best films to come out of the UK in recent years though and Caine is superb.

Looks good. I will give this one a rent sometime if I can ever pause on Halo or all the other games coming out this month.

I rented this from Netflix about a month ago. I really wasn't expecting much from it (had remembered briefly seeing the trailer sometime last spring), but was pleasantly surprised. Yes it was gritty/bleak/somewhat depressing, but it was a nice piece of filmmaking. Michael Caine has been on quite a roll the past few years with a number of memorable roles, and this was another great one.

I guess it doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for a good "revenge" flick too .... I get so much pleasure out of seeing the bad guys get what's coming to them!

What a nasty, fun movie. Unlike Eden Lake, which is just nasty and not fun. Michael Caine's always good to watch. Why is it that Emily Mortimer always plays characters you want to slap?
Spoiler
Because she was a goodie two-shoes and wanted to go back to the town (with no backup), she basically got her partner killed.

This movie kicks a lot of ass!

Be warned though, it does start off kind of slow and depressingly bleak, but once the ball gets rolling the movie is a real riot! It's just awesome to watch Michael Caine exacting his revenge on everyone involved...

Also, this movie is surprisingly brutal/bloody in many places....very nice stuff....

I'd easily rank this movie right up there with "Taken" as far as "revenge flicks" go.

Just re-watched Harry Brown for the first time in years, and for the first time on Blu. Hard to believe this is 8 years old this year.

This is truly an excellent film. Michael Caine is very believable as Brown, the retired pensioner who has to dredge up demons from the past in order to deal with violent crime in the UK estate (i.e., apartment complex) where he lives. Good social commentary here as well, without being preachy.

The whole scene with Brown contacting two junkies in order to buy a gun was incredible, from start to finish. Very good acting here,
Spoiler
and the final shoot-out & dialogue (as the bad guy was dying on the floor) was fantastic.
