Default 'Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of the 'Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut' has just been posted. E say this is the closest we'll likely ever get to a definitive film adaptation of the graphic novel, and its pretty great. This Blu-ray features exceptional video and audio and tons of extras. This is a must own for fans.

Meh. I already have the directors cut, and have seen the black freighter. I never saw what the crazy appeal of the book was, nor did I think the movie was much better.

Unfortunately, MoonShine, it's out of print. It's now a collector's item and can only purchase on eBay or Amazon private seller.

Bah.

I love the movie but I bought the Director's Cut about a month ago (right before those pricks dropped the price from $25 to $10 in retail stores!) and I don't think the Black Freighter portions will add anything to the experience. I think, if anything, it will make the movie just long enough that I won't want to watch it. The DC already clocks in at 3 hrs 6 mins.

I didn't think the Black Freighter parts were even that essential in the book, I kept waiting for some kind of "message" in it that would relate to the main Watchmen story, but it didn't have the impact I expected it to.

Anyway I'll pass unless I can find it cheap somewhere in a few months. No way I'm double dipping in a 1-month span.

Yeah, I suppose this Ultimate Cut would be appealing to hardcore fans, but I'm personally a fan of owning the Director's Cut and keeping the Black Freighter separately. When I revisit the film, I actually prefer to watch the Black Freighter and Under the Hood shorts first, as they help setup the film.

Had I known it would go out of print before the price went down, I would have picked this one up. Alas, I was impatient, purchased the DC upon release, and didn't want to pay so much extra when this came out.

Gets five stars and "Bottom Line: Must-Own for Fans"

WTF Really? Really?

I'm a fan of the movie "The Waterboy" and I'm sure millions of others are also but that movie only received two stars overall with a Bottom Line of "Skip It."

So if The Waterboy came out with an ultimate cut (lol...I know it will never happen) that movie would have to be rated "must own for fans" right?

Also The Waterboy beats Watchmen in key areas:

Waterboy

Budget:$23,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend:$39,414,071 (USA) (8 November 1998) (2664 Screens)
Gross:$161,487,252 (USA) (18 April 1999)

Watchmen
Budget:$130,000,000 (estimated)
Opening Weekend:$55,214,334 (USA) (8 March 2009) (3611 Screens)
Gross:$107,509,799 (USA) (28 May 2009)

And last but not least...Facebook Fans

Waterboy: 203,486 fans http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The...2407204?ref=ts
Watchmen: 24,245 fans http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The...2301922?ref=ts

Bottom Line: Don't be such a
