Oh great and about time but wait it's Universal which means slap on a little dnr and put out the disc, yah i am so cynical but i bet i am right, i have not been that impressed by their catalog releases on blu ray.

Shame if that happens as i love this movie.

Good for you.

As for this, I'm pissed that they're releasing titles I don't care about but not Big Lebowski or Eternal Sunshine (one of the greatest movies ever made)

The HD DVD was nothing to write home about. Hopefully it's a new DNR-less transfer, but I'm not holding my breath.

My HD-DVD of this title performs just fine. It is unlikely there will be any need to replace it with a blu-ray release of the same title unless there is a very significant upgrade in the PQ/AQ, which is highly unlikely based upon past experience.
But it is a great movie, and highly recommended for those of you who do not have it in your collection yet, in your high def format of choice.

While I have kinda grown up enough to realise that Ron Howard movies are mostly just fluff, Backdraft was always a favourite... I guess predominantly due to Hans Zimmer!

What I am curious about is whether we will see an extended edition released? Whenever the film screened here in Australia on Channel 10, it was always in an extended form, featuring at least 15 minutes of additional footage. Yet, I have never seen an expanded release on home video.

Pretty good movie, if you don't have it in your collection, you won't be disappointed. However I still have my HD-DVD version of this movie and I'll keep it for now.
