Big fan of the Holy Diver album and agree with those who think that this live London show was one of Dio's most memorable performances. Can't wait to get it on Blu-ray. Last edited by Tnecniv; 09-24-2010 at 09:13 PM. Reason: link edit |

Most likely not. That performance is from the Spectrum, an older Philadelphia show from the 80's. This Blu-ray release focuses on the Autumn '05 London performance at Astoria Theatre. Perhaps a future Blu-ray release of the Spectrum show, and other live Dio performances are in the works to further capitalize on his untimely death?
Edit: This should be on the Blu-ray: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nebGIkr5UO0 Not the same young Dio from that Philly clip, but still the same awesome voice. RIP |

I was sold on the first song in the setlist, from one of the greatest albums of all time, Rainbow Rising just fucking rocks like no other.

It's actually not a very good performance. Ronnie is under the weather and his voice isn't as strong as it normally was. Plus I think Doug Aldritch had to fill in on guitar for an injured Craig Goldy, and he had only been back with the band a few shows, so they aren't very tight. It's not awful, but its a shame Ronnie's sickness and Craig's absence happened to occur when this show was filmed.

Dio is my favorite singer of all time. I preordered this a few weeks ago. Craig Goldy is a good guitarist, but Doug Aldrich is a far superior guitarist in the same class as George Lynch, John Sykes, Jake E. Lee, and Vivian Campbell. R.I.P. RJD

I agree that Doug is better, but not when he hasn't played the songs in a few years and barely had any rehearsal time. He filled in on short notice and so it wasn't as good as Doug was on the Killing The Dragon DVD for instance.

I've kill for that 80's Spectrum show (which I had on VHS back in the day, and DVD later) on Blu....that will probably never happen, though.
This may be worth a rental. |
