I was gonna get these, but was wondering if they really are must buys, or just rental quality?

well, the first question is obviously are you a fan of the movies. if yes, then obviously yes. if not, then see below.

if you didn't like the movies as much, but are looking for movies with fantastic pq/aq, then again, yes. disney did a great job on these discs.

if none of the above, then probably not.

I have seen 1 before on DVD. I wonder if its worth getting on blu-ray to see it in HD?

If PQ is your determining factor, check out HDD's review of POTC 1. PQ of 5 outta 5

The only reason not to buy this is if you don't like the movie enough to upgrade to HD and you are happy with the DVD upscaled.

If you want to see great PQ and hear great AQ, then yes they're worth it. Disney did such a great job on these discs, I can't wait to get Pirates 3 when it comes out on BD later this year.

If you are a ''true believer'' (sorry Stan 'The Man' Lee) in what hi def movies bring to us consumers, then POTC 1 & 2 are no brainers. Say what you will about which one of these is the better movie, they are both GORGEOUS!!!! Probably the best looking blu-ray movies out on the market now, imho. And I know many people thought DMC was a snoozer, but ''it was the first movie in history to break the sacred $100 million mark in fourty-eight hours. By September 2006, DMC became only the third member of the billion dollar club-the third-highest grossing film, internationally, in motion picture history.'' I dont know if these facts make DMC a snooze fest, but everyone has different tastes.
