Default Disks Arriving Before Release Date

Today I received The Patriot in the mail. What happens to a retailer when they release a movie too early? Are there different rules for online shipments? This is the second time I have received a movie early, the first was the coveted Star Wars Trilogy which I received 5 days before it's release date.

What movies have you received early?

The Patriot is encoded in AVC and was hovering in-between 24 and 38 on the bitrate in the first five minutes.

I bought Matrix Reloaded DVD about a week or so before it streeted when I saw it in some random store. Stores can get fined or lose a particular distributor if its gets out of hand. I remember when Star Wars Ep 1 DVD came in, there was a warning that the store would lose distribution of Fox movies if we broke street date on it. I was the MMB Specialist at my local Target at that time so I had to deal with new releases and street date crap every morning when I'd came in to work and our overnight idiot wouldn't care what he put out on the floor.

Online retailers - and rental companies - can ship early with the intent that it arrives on the release date, whereas B&M stores can't sell before the release date or they're in violation of their distribution agreement.

Obviously your retailer is way off the mark. So, don't be such a tease - where did you get it from?

Have you played it yet? Highdefpreview.com got their review copy way early and says they hit out of the ballpark on audio quality.

About the best I get are movies from online retailers arriving Monday before release date.

I am watching in now. I would say it ranks with the best of them. I would not be surprised if it gets 5 stars for both PQ and AQ. As for special features, I never watch them anyways. I will rewatch the movie tonight with my wife to see what she thinks. I am thinking of starting a reveiw section for woman who are not too much of movie buffs. It might enable some people to know which movies their families might enjoy.
