Default A Single Man - High-Def Digest Review

Josh has reviewed Tom Ford's 'A Single Man.' He says this is an elegant period drama. This Blu-ray has very solid video and audio. The extras are few but concentrated. Recommended.

I'm going to blind buy this. I saw the trailer and was pretty much wowed by the way the film looks. If anything, this will be a style over substance purchase. But after reading the revie, I'm happy that there is substance.

Fantastic film. I'll buy it on Blu-ray once I replace my Sammy 5000.

I just watched this today-fantastic debut by the director. The film is gorgeous and heartbreaking. Beautiful sets and faithful to the book, according to my partner who has read it. Really stunning.

The disc is actually a BD50. Josh should really confirm these things by sticking the disc in a computer or something rather just believing online specs

Flip the disc over. How many bar codes are present around the center hole? If there's just one ring, it's a single-layer disc. If there are two concentric rings with separate bar codes, it's dual-layer. I'll look again when I get home, but I'm fairly certain that my copy is single-layer.

And, indeed, I've double-checked the disc and have confirmed that it is a BD-25.

So... pwned!

Then I got a different version. I got the US release by Sony from Netflix. I stuck it in my computer and it came up as 31,439,868,288 bytes (29.2 gigabytes).

Flip the disc over. What does it look like? If there's only one ring with a bar code, the disc cannot physically have more than one layer. In which case, your software reading is incorrect.
