I'd say it's probably exactly the same as the one that has been out in the UK for almost 2 years.
I gotta say I cannot believe after waiting all this time Warner is not going to offer a single disc version for the US.
(at least not initially)
wow, what a joke; guess I'll be ordering a copy from the UK now.
This is a cool movie, but I don't care enough about this one to spend the extra $$ on a UCE.
still, it's nice to see that warner is still happy to release great catalogs on bd.
the other studios have pretty much thrown in the towel.

I have the UK version. I was pleased with the transfer. If I remember correctly it had great depth and colors. Of course, it comes in one of those thicker cases, but didn't bother me.

Based on Warner's particular history of announcing a "ultimate collector's edition" first,(see "Blade Runner" and "Wizard of Oz") I would think it is safe to say a stand-alone disc will prevail as well. In fact one of the two links that I found on the subject, seemingly already states that:
http://www.thehdroom.com/news/The-Go...d-Details/6855

while Dvd Review has a picture and indication that it will only be the $49.99 UCE version that will emerge:http://www.dvdreview.com/news/viewnews.asp?id=11778

Default Hey you GUYYYS!

It is interesting timing with the announcement, as a "Goonies" 25th celebration was just held this past weekend in Astoria! I love that town and Cannon Beach too! I wish I could have been there as I heard the director,Richard Donner made an appearance yesterday along with the scheduled guests: Jeff Cohen - ("Chunk") - Joe Pantoliano - ("Francis Fratelli") Curt Hanson - ("Elgin Perkins") and Corey Feldman ("Mouth")!!!

this is gonna sound nutso, but i've never been a Goonies guy. sure it's a fun ride filled with some classic lines and scenes, but i always sort of had a negative feeling for it. so with that, i won't be buying this edition.
