I have Forbidden Planet on HD DVD and intend to keep it so I'll probably be picking up the rest at some point in the future.

"Mars Attacks" is a guilty pleasure to be sure. That I will want. I too have the of "Forbidden Planet" and am quite content with it. I already have Lucas' "THX 1138" DC on dvd which I primarily wanted for the rare inclusion of his original, college production version which is Avant garde for him.

Great timing for me----my HDDVD of Forbidden Planet just went bad.
I don't understand it---I treat all my discs with kid gloves and it just started jamming.

Oh well it was my last 'unreplaced' HDDVD--so I am now done with the format.

As long as there is no DNR applied to the BD. Three recent HD DVD Universal titles were released on BD and all three had rather excessive DNR: Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Apollo 13. Some other older culprits where the HD DVD looked better were The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. If Universal keeps this up I'll end up sticking with their all of their released HD DVDs. Luckily, Forbidden Planet is Warner title though.

THX 1138 and Mars Attacks for me, please! I already have the HD DVD of Forbidden Planet, so I think I'll be fine on that front.

Hmmm. I originally got Forbidden Planet on VHS in the clam-shell box way, way back when a VHS movie was $50 to purchase. It was the first VHS I bought. Then I got what I thought was better VHS version that came out later. Then, I got it on laserdisc, twice (one was a Critereon LD). Then I got it on DVD I think three times, the last one being the collector's tin box with the little Robby figure included. I waited out the format war so I don't have the HDDVD.

I guess I'll be getting the BD. But, I swear, that's where this madness stops!
