Default Lovers of bonus features, are you afraid...

...that with the stratospheric success of the utterly barebones AVATAR Blu-ray, studios will feel even less incentive to "trick out" their Blu-ray releases with interesting and entertaining bonus features? It seemed like, despite BD's exponentially greater storage capacity over DVD, bonus features were already becoming more and more anemic with each passing year...and now this. I don't know about you but I'm feeling a bit "blue" about it (pun only partially intended).

There will ALWAYS be collector's editions, etc etc... Extras aren't going anywhere.

Yeah, they'll be around, particularly on popular films. Bare bones stuff selling well is nothing new, so it's not like this will dramatically change things.

That's why I'm hating these asinine WB Double Feature discs. I'd rather import the titles because apparently the Double Features are "US Exclusives". Fucking lucky us....

Not worried at all - they've been very upfront with the fact that Avatar will have a feature-rich release in November.

I don't watch bonus features as much as I used to, but I still agree that it's sad to see something stripped away.

Superbit titles never killed features or extras.

The more blu ray takes over the lazier and cheaper the studios will get and they'll just repeat the dvd process as far as extras go .
Barebones, then more extras doubledip later, then anniversary ultimate editions,3d versions etc etc.
Many many blu rays have been barebones already.Tin Man came out barebones and now a double disc blu ray is coming out in uk with the extras.
Makes me sick. It's not surprising that people copy discs.

It's a business. The more mass market these products become, the less demand there is for a lot of that stuff amongst a big percentage of the audience.

I mean, what do you expect? These aren't philanthropic organizations, they need a business justification to do it for everything, and there really isn't one for a lot of titles. It'd be great if that wasn't the case...but I wish there was a market for Serenity 2, but well, what can I do. It doesn't make me sick, that's just reality.

I'm not a lover of special features -- the only one I have ever been inclined to watch is the Dangerous Days documentary that came with Blade Runner. Therefore, if barebones releases became the norm, I wouldn't be upset.

I'd like to see a system where single and double-disc versions were released, allowing the film to receive maximum space on the first disc and the special features to be HD on the second and for people like me to pay a little less for not having the special features.
