Default 'The African Queen' - High-Def Digest Review

David has reviewed 'The African Queen.' He says the movie is a true classic. It has NEVER looked better than it does on this masterfully restored Blu-ray. Video is awesome, audio is accurate and solid, extras are weighty if few. A must own release.

Not trying to sound like a dick but is there ANY reason why the Mono couldn't have been in PCM?!
I mean why is it that they WASTE paying Dolby the royalties for using their codec on Blu-ray when they don't need to by using PCM? It's all the major studios, I don't get it.

Great film, saw it this past weekend, and it was a blind buy.

Very nice review. I love the old three strip technicolor films on Blu. I'm sure I won't be able to resist this one.

Well, for one, it means he ends up with lossy audio, instead of the lossless track that could easily have been included.

so the issue then is that his equipment does not have the decoding feature.

By extension of this statement then, the argument could be made that ALL blu-rays should just have PCM mixes.

I understand that in this case a mono track is not going to be a space hog anyways, but still, why fault the distributor for using the techology available? It's not their fault someone's equipment doesn't have the latest features....

I don't think you're getting it. The issue is this release has only lossy audio when it could easily have some form of lossless audio.

Ahhh, OK, you're right, I wasn't getting it, I thought this had a lossless mono track already.

Nice review. Great film, lovely disc.

And solid line in the review thread intro Mike, 'extras are weighty if few' I'm bogarting that one someday ... joking.
