Default Straight to 3d?

Speaking of 3d, does anyone think we'll see the 2d versions of movies totally skipped by studios in favor of the 3d versions? To me, this seems like something that has Star Wars written all over it. Thoughts?

Personally I don't think so. If anything I see Studios double dipping.

3-D Blu-ray discs will be backwards compatible with 2-D.

The 3-D effect is created by filming a scene from two slightly different camera angles. To extract a 2-D version, all you have to do is only show one of the camera views. The new Blu-ray discs will be authored so that standard (non 3-D) players, or 3-D players set for 2-D output, will only be able to read one of the two angles.

There won't be any need to issue separate 2-D and 3-D discs.

That's possibly good news, or bad, thanks Josh.

What I wonder is if the price of all releases that are available in 3D are going to jump a couple bucks in price so that we get stuck paying for the 3D version even though we may not want it....
