Default The Relic - April 6th

Lionsgate are releasing one of my guilty pleasures on bbblu on the 6th of April.
Still have a soft spot for this blood drenched flick with its CGI monster wreaking havoc within a museum. Tom Sizemore and Penelope Anne Miller are both in good form as the leads.

Wow, Lionsgate owns this???? Paramount put this out back in the day. I used to own the LD of this.

Very fun flick from Peter Hyams and creature FX from Stan Winston.

I already pre-ordered mine.

Paramount also put out the DVD for Drop Zone, and maybe Hard Rain. i don't know what that's about Gerard, but both logos are on the packaging and disc itself.

Paramount seems to be distancing themselves from their "genre" films.

Paramount sold distribution rights to a selection of their older films to Lion's Gate. Seem to all be films that kind of did poorly at the box office.

No idea what else they sold, this is the fourth it seems. It happens a lot...Paramount probably saw more value in selling the rights than distributing it themselves, as I've heard Paramount is trying to move away from doing as much home video distribution as they used to, probably to cut overhead.

As for this film...it's not a great film, but I've got a soft spot for it since I saw it in theaters when I was 16. I remember it for some reason, and enjoyed its monster movieness, even though its a pretty typical affair. Production values are good though, even if the CG isn't necessarily state of the art.

This was a surprisingly good monster/horror film (based on a novel, I think). I hope they price it right.

Great book!

Awful movie.

The central character - Special Agent Pendergast is missing from the movie altogether. The book launched the writing careers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Between them they have 20 books and 9 of them feature Special Agent Pendergast. A 10th will arrive this May. Relic was his introduction into the literally world. A truly memorable character.

Do yourself a favor and get a hold of the book and see how buthered the movie is and how great the story should have been.
