You reminded me of a line from a Fred Astaire movie where within-a-play he appears as Rod Riley, Private Detective:

"Somewhere in the city there was a killer, and that was bad. Bad for the killer because I shoot hard. And I hate hard."

I think that they should throw the book at them. Stealing is stealing no matter how you slice that piece of pie. Millions in merchandise is no walk in the park. They should serve a good chunk of change in prison...

Sound like a bunch of dumbasses to me! If you steal from a store, eventually, your going to get caught.

How did they do it? I thought BLuray and DVD disc cases had those RF ID tag things inside them that set off alarms if you go out the door without the cashier disabling the tags..

^ If you walk out calmly, most stores won't stop you

Yeah, one store I used to shop at all the time had an alarm that always went off several times during my weekly visit. People would stop and they'd always wave to the people to go ahead. Several times it went off as I was walking out the door, ...I always wanted to look back with a guilty, frightened look on my face and then RUN out across the parking lot, and see what happened. lol.

I never did. I don't like running.

Oh, and PS, if I had my choice of dealing with a thief or a liar, I'll take the liar. As long as they don't take my stuff, I'm okay. Of course, that may be because I don't care much about what people say anyway. ...'Course, that may be because I've almost completely lost respect for mankind. Of course, that may be because so many of them are lazy, stupid, selfish Cheats, Thieves and Liars. lol.

estimated five million dollars...

They found more than 2,400 DVDs and Blu-ray discs as well as several hundred audio discs and videogames.
That doesn't add up.

Let's be generous:

24,000 Blu-Rays X $40 MSRP = $960,000
400 video games X $60 MSRP = $24,000

You're still under a million.

To get to 5 million they would need to have already moved more than 5 times this amount on ebay - or almost 10,000 discs! Am I missing something?

EDIT - the linked article says they've been at this for 4 years, but even still that's a hell of a lot of store theft! You're looking at more than $3000 of theft a day!
