As for 'The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly', I actually prefer the longer cut. It's an episodic tale, defined by its detours and endless shifts of alliance and betrayal. The longer it takes those three men to get to their final confrontation the more powerful it is. Especially since every frame of this film is so expertly crafted, I could watch it go on forever.
Yeah, this isn't going to be the last time we see GBU on disc, especially since Fistful and For a Few are due to get new disc releases from Kino later this year, early 2018. And you know when Fox/MGM gets itchy for easy profits they'll throw out their own releases again down the line.

All of Leone's Spaghetti Westerns were shot in Techniscope, which was a cheaper, lower-quality alternative to Cinemascope. Techniscope only used about half as much area on the 35mm negative, and was typically very grainy. There may not be much more detail to be gleaned from this movie.

Good to know about the other two getting Kino releases. Thanks, mate. Hopefully, once they've released them all individually, they'll bundle them at a good price. The presentation does look good in those screen grabs. Compared to the MGM release, I prefer the tones for the landscapes. The MGM one tends to make the landscapes look more swampy than desert-like. I'm fairly indifferent towards the skin tones. They look somewhat exaggerated in the MGM release, but not in a way that bothers me.

Yeah Kino Studio Classics' Facebook page is a boon for upcoming releases these days. They've confirmed new 4K scans for Fistful and For a Few Dollars and are working on the bonus features package. I may be mistaken but I believe Fistful is due sometime late November/December with For a Few coming sometime early 2018? They've been asked about a box set & or offering a custom sleeve and they've said their considering it - so that's something!

When I look at the picture of Clint on the ground I know I have to get the new release. He looks seriously ill - Hepatitis in its final state comes to mind.

This sounds great but also proves my other comments... 4K scans but releasing it in 2K format
I know, that will be a different dip altogether.
