This one was a decent Burton movie, but it sure doesn't compare to the original.

Me being a Tim Burton fan i have to say this was his worst film, i hated it.
I avoided it on HD DVD and going to avoid it on BD.

As for the original I never picked it up on HD DVD due to the bad reviews it recieved on it's PQ. Hopfully Warners, when they release it don't just port it over but produce a new transfer for it.

I'd think its a safe bet that Willy Wonka will get a new, proper transfer (actually in 1080p this time) when it eventually makes its blu-ray debut. I mean, they remastered The Perfect Storm.... why wouldn't they do the same for Wonka?

I'm sure this is going to be the exact same transfer as the HD DVD. I'll be happy to trade this in for that version.

Am I missing something. I own the version and I thought the transfer was pretty good. What is this ''actually in 1080p this time'' stuff?? HDD gave the version a four star for pq...so what am I missing here about this needing a ''new and proper transfer'', with all due respect Sup??

You're not missing anything, Willie Wonka is 1080p. Super-VHS is mistaken in assuming it's not and about the quality of the transfer as the reviews are generally pretty good (DVDTalk also gives it 4 stars for PQ, for example).

The HD DVD of Willy Wonka is vertically filtered and has jaggies..... just like The Perfect Storm, Caddyshack, The Fugitive, Lethal Weapon 2, Full Metal Jacket (first release) and Enter the Dragon (which also recieved a "4 star" rating here and elsewhere).

disc arrived this morning plays perfect on U.S PS3, has great p.i.p fun track.
picture looks great...colours really pop in the sweet shop and factory scenes...in the buckets houshold good inky blacks in the shadows...if you like this movie its worth getting. it has a Tim Burton commentary too, unlike the HD version.

The regular DVD version didn't have the commentary but the HD-DVD did.
