Default Zavvi Exclusives Thread

Quote From Zavvi:
Quote:
Zavvi Presents; Movies exclusive to Blu-ray and handpicked by Zavvi, ranging from hidden gems, cult classics and genre defying oddities. Each film is extremely limited so get it while you can.
Zavvi is now producing a new line of very limited exclusives.
They're not Steelbooks. In keeping with the other thread though, the thread format is duplicated here.

This thread is here to showcase Zavvi Exclusive Blu-Ray Releases. We currently have two Zavvi Steelbook specific threads, Disney Collections and Non-Disney Collections to showcase their exclusive Steelbook releases, so please use the appropriate thread when posting.

If you post photos/cover art, please wrap the full sized images with SPOILER tags to reduce the on screen bloat. A smaller size of the cover art unwrapped is acceptable.

ABOUT Zavvi:
Zavvi is an online retailer based in Cheshire UK that sells, among other things Blu Rays, Dvds and Video Games. Zavvi is well known for their exclusive steelbook Blu Ray discs and dvds. Zavvi also has a second chance outlet on Ebay, give it a try for some of the "Sold Out" titles.

Zavvi accepts most major credit cards and Paypal and charges a flat, £0.99 for International Standard Shipping. This rate is per order, not per item. A fee of £1.99 for Tracked International Shipping, and the rates and options go up from there.

Purchasing Tip: Often times after a new release announcement the title will show up as "SOLD OUT" on Zavvi's website. This means one of two things: 1) The item is sold out or most likely 2) Pre-ordering has not been opened up yet for this item. There is also many a time when an item will be available, then Sold Out again. Keep checking as it appears Zavvi opens up ordering in waves, and the item might just well be available to purchase once again. With real time inventory, if someone with a pre-order cancels, theirs will be available to purchase as well.

Region Coding: You always run the chance of getting a Region B locked title. Zavvi tends to list everything as Region B even if the contrary is known. A rule of thumb is that many of the major studio titles are Region Free. Disney/Pixar, except for The Jungle Book has had all their Steelbooks Region Free. Universal as a general rule also produces region free titles. Fox and Paramount titles are hit and miss so some legwork might be necessary. Adding to the confusion, some titles that might be released by Fox or Paramount in the USA might be released by Universal in the UK, see Gladiator, which is Region Free. This method is not 100%, but if a title is already available in the UK in a non-Steelbook, check Amazon UK for the same title and see what their data states. Also check THIS site as they may also have region coding accurately listed as well. Two less reliable resources but still worth a look, Region Free Movies.com and Blu Ray Region Coding Info. There's always the region-free player route, such as an Oppo with the right aftermarket kit, or other PC alternatives such as MakeMKV or Anydvd. One could also utilize their resources and ask in this forum, someone may know, that's what we're here for.

Other Details: Zavvi also is in the habit of listing audio details incorrectly on preorders. They will list something as Dolby Digital when previously a title got a True HD or DTS HDMA treatment. Follow the same suggestions as with Region Coding but in general, if the title was released with lossless audio, the Steelbook will also have it, at least for the English track.

Typical Exclusive Quantities:
Blu-Ray Release, 1,000 pieces
Disney/Pixar, 4,000 pieces
Standard, 2,500 pieces
Ultra Limited, 2,000 pieces.

Protect Your Investment: If you want to buy Steelbooks or other exclusive releases strictly for collecting, they will be safely stored on a shelf and unopened. However, if you want to get enjoyment from your collection and protect it, might I suggest storing them in resealable poly-bags, such as comic book collector bags (minus the cardboard inserts) or go to THIS page and mail order these bags. They indicate they are for dvd cases, keep in mind that Steelbooks are larger than standard blu rays so you need a little more room. Blu Ray specific bags can be purchased but you risk splitting them unless you have the lower profile steelbooks. Also try MeritLine as they often run a sale and offer low shipping rates.
One other choice and it is to the extreme are THESE sleeves. They're like slipcovers on steroids. They will set you back about $30 for 25 (Shipped) to the U.S.

Open Grave

PURCHASE

Street Date: October 20, 2014

Studio: Signature Entertainment

Region: N/A

Zavvi Description: Zavvi Presents Exclusive Release - #1 (1000 Copies Only)

Extras: N/A

Technical Info: N/A

Synopsis: Jon (Sharlto Copley, District 9, Elysium) wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that's more vicious - and hungry - than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together before it's too late. Open Grave is a terrifying and twisted thriller that will keep you guessing until the bitter end.

Comments: Listed as Release #01 for Zavvi Exclusive

The Director: Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego is a director from Madrid, Spain. His previous films are The King of the Mountain (El rey de la Montana), a thriller from 2007, and the science fiction horror film Apollo 18. Fred Topel of CraveOnline gave the film a good review, saying that its last 10 minutes are the most exciting of any summer movie ‘without special effects’.

You’ll like this if…: You like your Zombie films to be extremely bleak and suspenseful, with washed out colours and be based more in the unravelling of a tightly obfuscated plot than in thrilling shocks and traditional horror.

Anyone know much about Open Grave ?
Looks like Zavvi is doing their own extremely limited release ala Twilight Time.

Movies currently unavailable and released in very limited numbers.
Wonder if it means it will be released widespread after a certain "window" or if it is a longer term?

I'm guessing that it will get a wider release, but maybe with a different box art?

Today's email from Zavvi is indicating they have exclusives for, ready for this? For Warner Diamond Luxe Editions, only 2000 copies available.
As we all know with the U.S. release, Best Buy will be touting it as an exclusive as well, but on 12/9 it isno longer one.

So as ShadowofDeath questions above, maybe these "exclusives" are just early releases or different covers or something else.

Birth of the Living Dead

PURCHASE

Street Date: October 20, 2014

Studio: Matchbox

Region: B

Zavvi Description: Zavvi Exclusive/600 Copies Available

Extras: NA

Technical Info: NA

Synopsis: In 1968, a young college drop-out named George A. Romero gathered an unlikely team - from Pittsburgh policemen, iron workers, housewives and even a roller rink owner -to create a low-budget horror film that would revolutionise the industry and spawn a new flesh-eating monster that endures to this day. That film was Night of The Living Dead.

Birth of the Living Dead is the story of how Romero managed to pull off the greatest guerrilla shoot of all time. The film includes exclusive new interviews with the godfather of zombie films himself, as well as brand new animations created by Gary Pullin. Put together with sixties archival footage, this film shows just how politically charged Night was, set against the backdrop of race riots and Vietnam the film challenged the establishment and had enormous fun doing it. With a range of candid interviews and fascinating insight, Birth of the Living Dead is an absolute must have for any horror fan. Prepare to enter the original zombie universe and remember: "They're coming to get you, Barbara."

Comments: Smaller studio, probably will be region locked
